JD Nighthawk Reviews 'Fighting for Flight' by JB Salsbury

Fighting for Flight

by JB Salsbury

 I. Loved. This. Book.

In the steady stream of books flowing through my kindle it takes a lot to stop me in my tracks.

JB Salsbury you have forced my foot to slam hard on the brakes.....

I adored this book. For the first time, in a long time, I was reading with anticipation..... I couldn't pick what was going to happen until it actually happened.  That is rare these days. The opening scene had the hairs on the back of my neck standing up and a sense of dread creeping into my chest. I felt that anxiety lingering just below the surface for most of the book and  I loved it.

What happens when in order to win, you’re forced to lose?

The only daughter of an infamous Las Vegas pimp, Raven Morretti grew up an outsider. Liberated from the neglectful home of her prostitute mother, she finds solace as a mechanic. With few friends, she’s content with the simple life. Flying under the radar is all she knows, and more than she expects.

Until she catches the eye of local celebrity, UFL playboy Jonah Slade.

Weeks away from his title fight, Jonah is determined to stay focused on everything he’s trained so hard to achieve. Undefeated in the octagon, he’s at the height of his career. But resisting Raven’s effortless allure and uncomplicated nature is a fight he can’t win.

Jonah trades in his bad-boy reputation and puts his heart on the line. But when her father contacts her, setting in motion the ugly truth of her destiny, Jonah must choose.  In a high-stakes gamble where love and freedom hang in the balance, a war is waged where the price of losing is a fate worse than death.

Will the hotheaded Jonah be able to restrain his inner fighter to save the woman he loves?

Or will Raven be forced into a life she’s been desperate to avoid?

The characters in this book are written so well.  The bad guys are bad, evil in fact, and would have to make the top 5 of my all time evil characters.  The good guys; the guys at Ravens garage are good in every sense of the word.  If it wasn't for them (Guy and Mickey, and even Dog the cat) Ravens horrible life would  had no shining light at all.

But what I really enjoyed was the love story between Jonah and Raven.  The alternating POV's between the two was the icing on the cake for me.  It made the story and their union even better; getting a glimpse of what made both of them tick including their fears and desires made the connection to each of them as characters even stronger.

I loved that once Jonah knew Raven was the one - that was it for him. His mind was made up and there was no going back.

Raven is a heroine.  She may have cried...a lot, but it was completely understandable. Her life, her story....was horrible.  Until Jonah.

I'm not going to say any more for fear of a spoiler spilling out of my mouth.  Just go, now, and read Fighting For Flight. You won't regret it. Promise.

Shaggy Reviews ~ Sarah J Pepper's 'The Fate Trilogy' (Book 1 & 2)

The Fate Trilogy

by Sarah J Pepper

FORGOTTEN
 (Book 1)

"You can feel my adoration burning on your skin, can't you? It warms you doesn't it? he said, and traced my skin along my arm with a finger. Everywhere he touched, my skin absorbed his fervor." Passion is in our blood, just like humans. The difference lies in how we feel it. Both races feel their own desires, but we can feel each other's. When you lose your breath, my lungs refuse to work. Your sexy little squeal echoes in my ears for hours after, just like your hunger for the sound of my voice. My skin lights on fire when you allow me to touch your smooth, beautiful, porcelain skin"

I'd never been more terrified in my life. Everything he was saying was true- which was utterly impossible. I was human; he was human-right? We shouldn't be able to feel another person's attraction . Who did he think he was, if not human? A psychopath, that's who!

"If I was obsessed with you Jace,  I would've kissed you by now" I said

Shaggy's Thoughts:

If you do decide to read this please let me know what you thought I am dying to share and unload my feeling.

I am still riding my reading high from this book, yes it was that good.
Rarely do I find a book without the luscious loin bow chicka wow wow, shut the front door, but with this I did.
Author Sarah J.  Pepper took me for a ride on a paranormal journey ....and I want to go again. I didn't even need a translator on this paranormal journey (lately every paranormal book I have picked up seems to be in a language I do not fully grasp or have bought into)  I bought into this storyline,  I couldn't turn the pages fast enough.
I asked myself questions, OUT LOUD!!!! Do you know how many times this has happened? ....ehhhhh not to many!!!!!
I love Winnie (Gwyenth)....crap bare with me because I don't want to give to much away because that is a huge part of the beauty of this book, Ms. Pepper's ability to keep you guessing.  Well Gwyneth is blind, but man does the girl have chutzpah, she has had a crap life. In pops this crazy, makes me wanna throat punch him, hot and cold man Jace ....oh Jace! He brings out the claws in Winnie,  he is a mysterious, potentially heart crushing man. He pushes and pulls Winnie into this world even when she pushes back he pushes harder (I loved him for that...FYI Jace, if you break my heart I am so throat punching you in your jugular notch...heads up pretty boy).
I don't want to give to much away because like I said before that is the beauty of Forgotten...uncovering every page like it is a gift. I was impressed with Ms. Pepper's ability to make book one of The Fate Trilogy so flippin' awesome!  Typically in a paranormal series the first book is just a bunch of information thrown at you to lay down the foundation,  I didn't feel that once,  all I felt was my blood pressure rise because I am yelling either at Winnie or Jace to get it on, or flippin' kiss!!!!!  ahhhhhhh.

I rate Forgotten 9/10,
well played Ms. Pepper, well played!

TWISTED GAMES
 (Book 2)

"If you swear to put down your weapons, I promise that you'll find a new meaning to life," she spoke these words as if it were the deepest darkest secret she'd ever shared.  "You'll learn what it really means to love another."
I'd fallen for others before, but it certainly hadn't been life altering.
"I wouldn't agree to her proposition, Chronicler," the Cutter said in a singsong manner as she poked the fire with the stick.
Coals tumbled out of the fire pit. The Prophet grabbed the Cutter's stick and scowled at her.  The Cutter rolled her eyes and stuck out her tongue.   Not discouraged from playing,  the Cutter held up her fingers beside the fire. The light cast shadows onto the walls. The Cutter giggled with delight when she made a shadow- bunny hop.
"You'll find a new meaning to life, but I must warn you there will come a time you regret feeling an ounce of love," the Prophet said. "It will blind you, making you susceptible to foolish decisions. Your enemies will use it against you."
"Love is foolish,"  I agreed.  But certainly it couldn't have repercussions as devastating as my sister predicted.
"Love makes you blind"  she said.

She had no idea what I saw with my eyes.  As Chronicler, I saw into people's past. Their history predicted untold futures.  As a Fate Sister, I could meddle with anyone's destiny. I laughed, "Fine,  I'll lay down my sword, as it were, if you show me a meaningful life."

Shaggy's Thoughts:
Let the Twisted Games begin....first off Author Sarah J. Pepper owes me a good nights sleep and if CPS comes knocking on my door I am blaming you!!!!!!
Okay sweet lordy who can Gwyneth trust? (perfect title for this book)  Can I love Jace anymore than I already do?  uhhhh YES!  Oh he has earned a one way ticket to my stable of men...(fist bump it Ms. Pepper).
As The Fate Trilogy continues in book two Twisted Games.  Gwyneth has discovered bits and pieces of her memories and  has regained some of her vision back.  Oh and the sparks are still there, just get it on already...ahhhhhhhhhh.  I felt the chemistry between these two,  oh god Jace!  I still wanted to throat punch him especially when he does dumb crap which is not to often,  but he is a man.
I love how Gwyneth rolls with the punches she is thrown through out this book and she holds her own.  The Author gives us more pieces to the puzzle of this world Gwyneth has reawakened to.
I loved it all everything about this series, it is fresh and engaging, I couldn't put it down...then when I was done I did the whole  uh... uhhhhh tilting my head up to the sky like that is going to make anything better... crap now I have to wait...uhuhhhhhh (see I am doing it again!!!!!).
It had everything one could possible want in a Paranormal book and then some, yes it is a clean book but all I can say is man,  Sarah J. Pepper reminded me why I fell in love with a good Paranormal story.  She took me to a place I have never been to and gave me a book I can share with my teenage daughter. She made me smile like it was nobody's business.

Yes, I rate Twisted Games a big 10/10  Ms. Pepper
and a big Texas Thank You

About Sarah J Pepper

I specialize in dark, paranormal romance – think “happy ever after” but with a twisted, dark chocolate center. Real-life romance isn’t only filled with hugs, kisses, bunnies, and rainbows. True-love can be more thoroughly described in times of darkness and tribulation. It’s in those harsh moments where you see what a person is truly capable of – both the good and bad. Sometimes prince-charming isn’t always on time, and the glass slipper is a little snug. However, it doesn’t mean Charming is not Mr. Right, and who says every shoe is the perfect fit?

Kimberlyn Kandie Reviews 'Sizzle' by Lexi Buchanan

Sizzle (Bad Boy Rockers)

Lexi Buchanan

Thalia is twenty-one and has just finished her sophomore year of college. Her new boyfriend, Liam, invites her to spend the summer with him and his family, so as she’s been unable to find a local job to keep her at college, Thalia jumps at the chance. Liam tells her that she can be his guest at his brother, Jack’s, wedding at the end of the summer.

Jack is twenty-five and feels as though he’s drowning. He’s engaged to Mia, against his will, because it’s always been drilled into him, family comes first. Jack’s studying for a law degree, and wants to go out on his own once he graduates, specialising in criminal law. His father wants him to accept a junior partnership in the law firm owned jointly by him and Lewis, his fiancĂ©es father, to practice family law.

Then he meets his brother’s girlfriend, Thalia, and he can’t get her out of his head. He needs her to keep her distance, because every time she smiles in his direction, he wants to carry her to his room and do really naughty things to her.

Then Saturday night arrives and Liam takes Thalia to a new bar that has opened on the outskirts of town, where she discovers Jack’s big secret. By day he’s the good looking, slightly older brother with a chip on his shoulder, who gives her hot looks, and by night he’s Phoenix, singer/guitar player for bad boy group ‘Deception’, who makes her sizzle to the core!

He has muscle. He has tattoos. He has piercings. He has a mouth that makes her panties wet every time he opens it. He is supposed to be getting married. He is also her boyfriend’s brother...

Kimberlyn rates 'Sizzle' a sexy..

Sizzle is the first in the Bad Boy Rockers series by Lexi Buchanan. I was a little hesitant to read this book since I have fallen for so many Rocker Book Boyfriends. But Phoenix aka Jack can hold his own and is right up there at the top of my list of Rocker Book Boyfriends!!

The book starts out with Thalia and Liam ready to start their summer break from college. They are going to spend the summer at Liam’s house with his family since his older brother Jack is getting married to Mia. No one knows that Liam is bringing Thalia there to breakup Jack and Mia’s wedding, which basically is an arranged marriage.  Since Liam is madly in love with Mia.  Jack sees Thalia for the first time sleeping in the spare bedroom and instantly falls in love. Knowing he is engaged to Mia he instantly warns Thalia to stay away from him at all costs.

Jack is going to college to become a lawyer like his father wants him to be but at night he plays in a rock band with his best friend’s Donovan and Reece. His rocker name is Phoenix with tattoos and piercing’s to match. None of his family knows about his rocker side since he knows they would not approve. Once Thalia finds out Jack becomes only Phoenix in her eyes.

Will love find its way for Phoenix and Thalia as well for Liam and Mia or will family get in the way?

I give this book a 9 on our horndog scale. It’s a fast page turner and keeps you captive with all the sexual chemistry between Jack (Phoenix) and Thalia.

It also introduces you to Reece and Callie. Their story is next in Spicey!!!

Review of 'Darkest Hour' by Lexi Jade

Lexi Jade's 'Darkest Hour' has been reviewed by Bad Girls:

Kimmy Sparkles, Shaggy Catch-TwentyTwo and Mia Rose

Click here to find Darkest Hour @ Amazon.com

Dakota had just moved to Virginia Beach.  Out with her friends one night she meets Landon, a sexy man on leave from the military who she knows is not good for her heart.

All Landon wanted was a good time during his week home on military leave with his friends.  After meeting Dakota at a bar one night and losing a bet, his world gets turned upside down when he has to spend the week with her.  It wasn't a big deal at the time, but now he can't stop thinking about her.

Fire and passion burn within these two when they are near.  How far will Dakota go to protect her heart from being destroyed again; how far will Landon go to make sure he is all she will ever need.  Will they survive or will they go their separate ways.  A night neither will ever forget turns out to be their darkest hour.

This group of Bad Girls rate 'Darkest Hour'
Shaggy's says:

Darkest Hour by Lexi Jade had all my favorite ingredients: A Marine...hell that is typically all it takes for me (kidding I am not that shallow...yet) A woman who has loved and lost, crazy friends, and one hell of a crazy night. With all of these ingredients we meet Dakota a woman who works way too much and who has been slighted by love once before.

In walks Landon, Hooray!!!! yep a Marine (*sighing* I have a strong weakness for service men, especially Landon and his weapon wielding hot self) home on leave him and his buddies hit the town and make a bet with Dakota and her girls.  A bet that makes sparks fly and boy did I feel the heat from Landon and Dakota, but unfortunately that is where it ended for me as well.

I went through the motions but felt little, I wanted to know Landon and Dakota more, I wanted to feel their emotions for each other. I didn't feel any of those things which sadden me.  That said, I am giving her 5 horndogs, why am I giving her 5 horndogs?

Well because Ms. Jade is one to keep an eye out for, I know she is going to so comeback and rock my socks off and I will beg for more. Even though Darkest Hour did not do it for me, I know this Author has potential to be huge, she sure as hell knows how to steam up the room.

Kimmy's thoughts:

Lexi Jade’s debut Darkest Hour is a short easy read. It’s about a woman that works in health care and has a lot going on, meeting a Marine and spending one week with him. Who doesn’t love a man in uniform?

The story starts with Dakota having a girls night out; drinks, laughs and dancing. The girls end up hustling these marines into a game of pool. The bet, who wins gets to spend the week with that person. Well Dakota and the girls win so she gets to spend the week with Landon.

Great story line, but it just didn’t captivate me. I didn’t feel completely connected to these characters. While the story had enough drama to get me to the end it just was missing something. It was well written and Ms. Jade can write some very steamy stuff. But yet there was still something missing to it, that connection.

Props to Lexi Jade and her debut and putting herself out there.  She definitely has talent, keep your eye on her she will be doing great things I know this. But as for Darkest Hour I rate it 5 horndogs.

Collage credit thanks to Kimmy Sparkles!

Mia Rose's review:

I won't go into much detail about what the books about but basically the heroine Dakota was newly divorced and had recently been in a bad car accident, she wanted to get away from all the bad memories her hometown holds for her and move away. Her college best friend Kinley moved to Virginia beach after they graduated and has been trying to get her to move down there with her ever since, so she packs everything she wants to keep (which is not much) up and off she goes!!!

She ends up meeting a military man named Landon, while on a night out with 2 of her friends a few weeks later, he was on a weeks leave from the military and was also out with 2 friends. Needless to say, they all end up hitting it off, and each pair end up going home with each other at the end of the night.

I thought the book started off with a lot of promise, I loved reading about how the girls hustled the guys at the pool table the first night they all met, I thought that was hilarious. They really put three big, cocky, macho, military men in their place that's for sure, loved it!!!
I liked getting the two POVs, going back and forth between Dakota and Landon. I really like getting into the lead males head (I didn't mind getting lost in Landon's head that's for sure lol).

Dakota was a hard working nurse, and an independent, feisty woman, and that's the type of heroine I like best. And Landon, well what can I say about him other than drool worthy, lets face it, all military men are, how can they not be!!!

BUT, and I'm sorry to say this is a big BUT, because this book just ended up feeling really rushed to me, Lexi Jade never went into any detail about the week they ended up spending together, the chapters were really short, and every issue or event that occurred was dealt with and over within a few short paragraphs!!! There was also very little detail of either of their backgrounds. So because of these things, the book was a little spoilt for me in the end if I'm honest!!!

I'm giving this a rating of 5 Horn Dogs - Started off with a lot of promise, but ended up being to rushed and with nowhere near enough detail!!!

Kimberlyn Kandie Reviews 'Fatalism' by L K Collins

Fatalism is an awesome, sexy, and steaming read.

This is the first book by L K Collins and it is AMAZING!!
I devoured it unless than a day.  I was honored to be given an ARC on this book.

The story takes place in beautiful Colorado where Alexa is a senior paralegal at a prestigious law firm.  It’s her sister’s birthday and they go out bar hoping where she runs into Vincent grabs him and kisses him, which is so out of character for Alexa.

Thinking she has missed her chance with Vincent in walks her new boss Kane Mileski aka Vincent, at the law firm.  Alexa has one golden rule that she lives by she does not date the attorney’s at the firm she works for especially the one she has to work directly with on a day to day basis.

Will Alexa give love a chance and break her one golden rule?

“Alexa, do you have any idea how amazing you are?  I want to savor our first time together. I have been thinking about being inside of you all day. I want to see your perfect body and learn every curve”  Vincent
This book grabbed me and sucked me in from chapter one. Wanting more and more you will not be disappointed!! It will also have you dreaming and wanting white rose petals scattered throughout your bedroom in the heat of passion.

Kimberlyn rates Fatalism a fantastic
