'imperfectly perfect' by A.E Woodward

A Review presented by Penelope Pureheart.

If you are looking for an almost perfect love story this is it.  The characters are real, like the friends you can connect with and the ones that make you shake your head.  The goofy friend you have that says the first thing that pops into their head with no internal filter.  The ass boyfriend that has cheated on you and lied about it.  The guy that you can be honest with and the relationship that starts with friendship.

Then there is you or Emma, the author does such a good job you can become Emma in your mind.  I understand Emma.

"Growing up, my mother was unrelenting in her lessons on the importance of perfection.  I had to have the perfect hair, find the perfect boyfriend, and choose the perfect college.  I found the more my mother pressured me, the more i pushed back."
The author created wonderful characters, developed a terrific plot with enough conflict to make the story interesting and connected the plot pieces at the end.  You can tell I loved this read.  I would recommend it to a wide range of readers.  The lessons learned from the characters are universal in appeal.  The author's use of humor helps me to care about the characters.

But.. if you are looking for a pantie wetting book this would not be for you.  Your heart will beat fast, you'll love the characters but it is not a sexually explicit "adult" book.  This book will have a wide range audience, and what a bargain at $0.99!

Blurb for 'The Bitter End' (Book one in the Golden Crown Series)

Bethany was born into a world of privilege and has never had to want for anything in her life. Her parents gave her everything, but the one thing she desired the most was love. When Bethany’s Mother dies her Father becomes even more distant with the immediate replacement of Bethany’s Mother by “Miko”, a woman who has no compassion nor interest in Bethany whatsoever.
On her own and living in a penthouse, which is a lavish gift from her Father, Bethany ignores all responsibility as she lives on a weekly allowance her Father is sure to place into her bank account. With too much time on her hands Bethany is free to pursue other interests such as a boy she never cared for in school named Ryan Blackwell. Ryan is a male escort for hire and has made his living on pleasuring the higher echelons of New York society women, but when he meets Bethany his game is shifted from one of hunter to prey and he will soon find out that she is not the easy target he once imagined. Their torrid love affair is filled with a painful need to harm each other in every way, including the bedroom. Will Bethany finally receive the love she has always desired or will her lineage doom her forever?

“The Bitter End” is book one in the Golden Crown Series, filled with lust, greed, suspense and murder. Sometimes new beginnings lead only to bitter ends.

The Twin Dragons (Book Two in the Golden Crown Series)

Bethany and Ryan find themselves trapped in a cycle of personal abuse as the twins near their 18th birthdays.  Suddenly it occurs to Bethany that she will be left alone with Ryan when the boys move out.  With this looming fear eating at her heart she starts to change. She decides to allow herself to seek life again, this time for her and not for the boys, or even for Ryan.

With this new found fire burning in her, she starts taking chances she had not taken in years.  Bethany foolishly places herself in danger, but is saved by a "knight in shining armor", Emmanuel, who may be her new salvation, or perhaps her fateful doom.

Filled with jealousy Ryan reaches out to an old enemy and brings back a darkness they believed to be buried long ago.  All the while, Augustus and Cassisus are building their own fate with lovers who may have been solely created for their ultimate destruction.

The Twin Dragons is book two in the Golden Crown Trilogy, filled with more deception, seduction, lies and surprising twists than book one.  There are no Kings or Queens in this world, there are only Dragons.

COLTON CALLOWAY!!!!!

Colton Calloway...

The Amazing HOT guy from Falling Into You!!

Colton Calloway is the Bad Girls feature Book Boyfriend of July 2013.  So how excited were we when he agreed to spend some time with us.  Let's just say there was LOTS of swooning, fanning and tripping over ourselves to see who would be the lucky one to do the Interview!

Suffice it to say, with 12 of us fighting for the pleasure, and rock, paper, scissors turning into a wrestling match... it was ultimately safest for us, and Colton *wink wink* to have friends of the Bad Girls ask the questions!

Seriously, we heard Colton's sigh of relief from all of our locations!
Anywho, keep reading to see what Colton had to say...

Bad Girls: Hello Colton!  Thank you so much for doing an interview with us.  We are the Bad Girls and not just by name so we’ll try not to be too naughty.  We are BIG fans of yours though so it may be hard.  We may even need a spanking……

Joanne Dromgold: Hi Colton. I'm a big fan *sigh*..... I'd like to know what it is about Nell that has you so drawn to her?  It is obvious there is a very deep and profound connection between the two of you, it was apparent from the first moment we see you at the funeral. Were those feelings already there for you? Is that why you were so supportive towards Nell? Or did the feelings begin to form after being there for her during that horrible event?

Colton: Hi Joanne. Thanks, I guess? I’m still getting used to people being my fans, so I hope I’m not too awkward about it. Nell is awesome, I mean, how can you not be drawn to her? I was as surprised by my feelings for Nell as she was about hers for me. That funeral was…difficult, for many reasons. And feeling an attraction to someone at a funeral is tough by itself, you know? You’re supposed to be there to mourn the loss of the loved one, not fall in love with someone. Least of all the girlfriend of your baby brother, who’s the one in the casket. It was hard, and surprising, and tricky. The feelings started at the funeral and grew from there.

Sandy Soetrisno: Hi Colt, *biting lips* do you think you could’ve fallen in love with Nell if Kyle was still alive? Assuming you came back home when she was all grown up and turned into this happy beautiful woman?

Colton: God, Sandy, that’s not a very fair question. Jeez. If Kyle had lived, I don’t think I would’ve let anything happen. Would the feelings have grown if I’d just come back and met her? I don’t know. I’d have been attracted to her because she’s just so damn beautiful, but I don’t think I would have done anything about it, if she was with Kyle.

Jasmine Hunter: Can you understand why some people would find your relationship between you and Nell as inappropriate or difficult to accept/understand?

Colton:  Sure Jasmine, I get it. I’m a few years older than her, but not THAT much. Since she was with Kyle, I can see how people might be uncomfortable with our relationship. But, unless you lived through what we did, I don’t think anyone has a right to judge. When you fall in love with someone, you don’t always have a lot of choice in it. You can choose to walk away, but that’s the hardest thing you could ever do. And Kyle was gone. He wasn’t coming back. It wasn’t a betrayal of him. We fought with that for a long time.

Nella Durham:  Are you and Nell going to return to NYC or stay home?  After all, you have your shop & gigs with Nell.

Colton:  We’re hopping around. I’m not sure where we’ll settle. NYC has been my home for a long time, but I’m not sure it’s where we’ll stay. Nella, I can’t give you a definitive answer right now.

Jasmine Hunter:  Colt, how do you think Kyle would feel about your relationship with Nell?

Colton:  You’re really hung up on this, aren’t you, Jasmine? LOL. In all seriousness, though, I can’t answer for Kyle. I’m not him. He’s dead. That’s harsh, maybe, but it’s just the truth. I can’t waste my emotional energy wondering what he’d think about my life, because that’s a slippery downward slope. Let the dead rest in peace, and live your life for you, making the best choices for yourself.

Britton Copeland Epps:   Do you wish you would have tried harder to get to know Nell after Kyle’s funeral instead of years later?

Colton: Not really Britton. I think we both needed time. I wasn’t in a place where I could have been with her, and obviously she had her own stuff to work through.

Jay Zee: Music clearly enables you to communicate freely with Nell by your side.  Do you think you will ever share that professionally?   You two make a great team.

Colton: Jay, we’re doing professionally right now. We’ve got gigs all across the east coast and through the south. We’re working on a tour of the mid-west and the west coast right now, but we’re doing it all ourselves, on our own dime and through our own planning, so it’s a bit of a slow process putting it all together.

Patricia Hopkins-Nesbitt:  So Colt... Boxers, Briefs or do you free ball it?

Colton:  Boxer-briefs. I never ever go commando. It’s…chafey. That’s all I’ll say.

Patricia Hopkins-Nesbitt: ***Clank*** (sound of my panties hitting the floor) Colton what is your favorite sex position?   And have you always been an ass slapper? That is SO hot btw!  Nell is one lucky chick.

Colton: Wait, your panties clank? Should I ask? Is that the sound of your chastity belt unlocking? Kidding. Nell is my favorite sexual position. I like it all. Every position has it’s own merits. As for the ass-slapping, yeah. I love Nell’s ass, and in general, a nice ass is just a good thing. I don’t think any man can see a nice round ass and not want to slap it a little.

Joanne Dromgold:  Where did you learn your awesome “doorway” skills?

Colton: Well, Joanne, where I learned my doorway skills is a trade secret. But when you want a woman enough, you’d be surprised what you’ll do to have her. Don’t mistake sexual creativity for something it’s not, though. Making love with the person in your life should be fun and hot and an expression of your love. If you’re not crazy and acrobatic, that’s not a bad thing. Not everyone makes love the same way. If you and your significant other like it missionary most of the time, there’s nothing wrong with that. Enjoying each other is what’s important.

Colton: Well Girls.. Its been fun!  But I've gotta run!  Later...

Bad Girls:  Thank you very much for your time.  We are so excited to have had you here with us.  We hope we weren't too cheeky for you *wink wink*.

The Bad Girls would like to thank Jasinda Wilder for making this chat with Colton possible.  Be sure to show Jasinda your love and visit her at www.jasindawilder.com

Jasinda Wilder takes time out to talk to the Bad Girls....

After reviewing Falling Into You, we were very excited to have
Jasinda Wilder spend some time with us.

Keep reading to see the Bad Girls Blog It Better interview with Jasinda
about Nell, Colton and her Falling Into You experience...

Bad Girls: Will you be giving us more Nell and Colton?  We desperately want more.  You have mentioned before that you wouldn't rule out the possibility.  Has that changed? (crossing fingers, toes, legs....please, pretty please!)

Jasinda:  I very, very highly doubt there will be another book starring Colton and Nell.  When I say I won't rule out the possibility, I just mean that nothing is truly impossible, however unlikely it might be.  Meaning, it's POSSIBLE you'll win the lottery, but you've got a better chance of being struck by lightning.  In regards to Colt and Nell, their story has been told.  Another book starring them would have to have the drama and angst and heartbreak that makes the Falling books so unique, and really, don't you think those two have been through enough?

Bad Girls: What did Colton think of Nell before he left home and vice versa?  They must've bumped into each other quite a bit with Nell and Kyle being so close.

Jasinda:  I tried to explain this in Falling Into Us a bit more, as well as in some of the deleted/bonus scenes that are out there.  Which, by the way, I've got a hardcover version of Falling Into You in the works, with all the deleted scenes/bonus scenes included.  But regarding Colt and Nell before Colt left Michigan.... they knew of each other, but they were in different places.  He was five years older.  Think about the difference between a 9 year old and a 4 year old.  Think about the difference between 16 and 11.  Kids are in two different worlds at those ages.  So they knew who each other were, but they didn't really know each other.  I've gotten some bad reviews because of this subject, but it's not so hard to understand, I should think.

Colt was a troubled young man.  He was under enormous pressure in school, and he was struggling with a learning disability that was very poorly understood at that time.  I had a friend in high school who was dyslexic, and this was when dyslexia was getting more research and attention, and it was intensely hard for him to cope with school despite being a very capable and intelligent person. So if Colt was older, those few years make a difference in terms of the educational resources he'd receive and the understanding he'd get from various sources.  I say all this to explain that Colt spent the bulk of his childhood in his room, studying and doing homework.  Or he was at school being tutored.  Or, when he got older, he was buried in a car engine, which was his only real outlet.  His little brother's best friend wouldn't have been real high on his list of priorities.  He'd know who she was, he'd be familiar with her presence, but they wouldn't hang out.  He wouldn't know her or be her friend.

For Nell, Colt would have been just her best friend's slightly reclusive, troubled older brother.  Again, she'd know who he was, she'd be familiar with seeing him come and go, but remember that Kyle and Nell spent most of their time hanging out at Nell's house, not Kyle's.

Bad Girls: What was your inspiration for such a deep and beautiful story? Did you draw any inspiration from your first love?  And where did all of this raw emotion come from?

Jasinda: The love story was there. It was the story that had to be told. This story isn’t drawn from my life, except, as I’ve said in other interviews, that I knew someone who died like Kyle did. The rest is fiction. The raw emotion? It comes from life. We all experience dark times, hard times, moments of raw horror and turbulent emotions. As a writer, I’ve learned to translate the emotions of my experience into what I write. If I’ve suffered heartbreak in any way, I can use those emotions to describe heartbreak, whether my personal experience is the same as the events I’m writing about or not. It’s like an actor who uses the emotions from his or her life and turns it into a performance on screen.

Bad Girls: What is your experience with learning disabilities being that Colton and Becca both lived with them?

Jasinda: I know a few people who are ADD/ADHD, and I knew someone in high school who was dyslexic. I’ve encountered people with all sorts of problems, and these find their way into my books.  Becca was a secondary character, initially. I gave her a stutter to sort of make her more real, to round her out, so she wasn’t just another stock character. Then, when demand for a second Falling book became overwhelming, the idea for Becca and Jason’s parallel story came to me.  So, I had to research stuttering and speech impediments. I did a LOT of research. I watched Youtube videos of people with stutters to get the dialect right, to learn about the difference between blocks and ticks, pre-syllabic stutters and mid-syllabic stutters, word-repetition, etc. I researched causes and solutions, watched more videos of pre-treatment/post-treatment stutter patients. I learned the difference between stutters that dissolve with treatment and age, and those that are incurable but treatable, and how emotional trauma can cause reversion/relapse, but that the trauma itself doesn’t trigger it, the emotional backlash makes it harder for the stutterer to stay fluent. For Becca, who has a lifelong stutter, she doesn’t “get over it”. She just learns to deal with it and learns to be fluent. When she experienced trauma, it caused a setback that she had to cope through all over again.

Bad Girls:  Why did you choose to use cutting as a coping mechanism for both Nell and Colton?

Jasinda:  Because it’s real. It’s something I’ve dealt with. I’ve never cut, but I’ve known cutters. It was risky, because it’s such a sensitive issue and it has to be presented correctly, but it was how Nell dealt with things. I knew it was the issue for her from the first moment that she used physical pain to cope with the emotional. I didn’t put it in just to make it more dramatic or whatever. It was an issue I know something about, and that I knew I had to work through in this book. Hopefully in reading FIY, some of my readers find the impetus to seek help, to find healthy ways of coping.

Bad Girls: How did you come to the plot decision to have Colton’s wealthy, well-educated parents be so far removed from his life?

Jasinda: That’s based in reality, too. I’ve seen it. Money and education doesn’t solve everything. His parents struggled with his disability, and sometimes, rather than truly deal with it, some people will bury their heads in the sand and try to ignore the problem, even if that means ignoring the child that is the root of the “problem.”

Bad Girls:  It is obvious music played a big part in this book, and we have read that music plays a huge roll for you while writing.  You have previously mentioned that you are working on putting the three original songs to music.  How is that coming along?  We loved the playlist.

Jasinda: Music is a part of my writing process, like you said. I recorded the song Colton writes for Nell, the real “Falling Into You” song. I put it to music, and a friend of mine with a recording studio helped me mix and recorded it. It’s me singing, too. It’s an exclusive bonus at the end of the audiobook, available via Audible and iTunes. I’m not sure if I’ll do the other songs or not. It was a TON of work, and while fun and rewarding, I have other books to write and publish.

Bad Girls: We love your ballsy move to work with such controversial topics such as girl dates dead boyfriends brother and cutting and you just made it work!  Were you ever afraid this might be too much for some readers?  Did you suffer any backlash from that?  How did you handle it?

Jasinda: I knew it was risky, but I was pretty confident that it’d work out, and it did. Backlash? I’ve gotten bad reviews, but you can’t please everyone, and that’s how I deal with it. I just remind myself that some people aren’t going to like what I do, no matter what I do. I have to write the best book  I can, be honest and open, and that’s it.

Bad Girls: The sex scenes......SIGH… they were HOT HOT HOT!!!  Where does the inspiration come from and does this inspiration have a single brother?  ;) Do you have a go to person to help with these scenes?

Jasinda: The inspiration comes from life. I’m married, so that should answer your question. LOL.

Bad Girls: Are the characters based on anyone that you know?  Who would your ideal Colton and Nell be?

Jasinda: My characters are always composites. No one character is ever a direct portrait of someone I know. They’re amalgams of various traits of people I know mixed with fictional characteristics. I’m not a hundred percent sure who my pick for Colton would be, actor wise. In terms of looks, I can see Kellan Lutz being Colton, but the actor would need to be musical, and I’m not sure if Kellan is or not. Amanda Seyfried is my pick for Nell.

Bad Girls: Can you tell us a little about yourself and your awesomeness?   What current projects are you working on and can you share some details with us? (pretty please)

Jasinda:  Me? I’m married (if you attend a signing, you’ll probably meet my Mr. Wilder), and I have five amazing kids. I love reading, writing, traveling, meeting my fans and all the awesomesauce readers who make this job so incredible. My current project is called Stripped. It’s available for preorder on Amazon right now. It’s about a girl named Grey, an innocent pastor’s daughter from Georgia who goes to LA to pursue her dreams of being a Hollywood film producer, but runs out of money and ends up stripping to pay the bills. She meets an uber-sexy A-list actor named Dawson, and the story is about their relationship and their struggles. I’m posting a teaser on my blog and in my newsletter, so if you go to www.Jasindawilder.com you can find all that there.

We thank you so much for your time Jasinda!  You rock in our book.

The Bad Girls July Team Review...

Falling Into You

by Jasinda Wilder

The Bad Girls team choose a book once a month to collectively review.  This enables the girls to sink their teeth into a book and discuss it together.  It also allows our fans to see a number of brief reviews in the one place, from a diverse group of women!

It's safe to say, if a collectively reviewed book rates high on the horndog scale, its an awesome, amazing, must read book - because the Bad Girls cover the age demographic of 20-60+, and only tell it how it is...honestly!

So for our inaugural collective review - Jasinda's book was randomly chosen, and how lucky were we that Jasinda has been very accommodating and supportive of the Bad Girls!

But enough about us...  Lets get to the review...

Synopsis

I wasn't always in love with Colton Calloway; I was in love with his younger brother, Kyle, first.  Kyle was my first one true love, my first in every way.  Then, one stormy August night, he died, and the person i was died with him.

Colton didn't teach me how to live.  He didn't heal the pain.  He didn't make it okay.  He taught me how to hurt, how to not be okay, and eventually, how to let go.
~~~~~
Nell Hawthorne is in love with her life-ling best friend, Kyle Calloway.  Their young love is invincible and life is full of promise; then one night Kyle dies suddenly in a tragic accident and Nell is forever changed.  She meets Kyle's older brother Colton for the first time at the funeral.  They both struggle to move on with life as best they can.  Years later, they meet again in New York City, and Colton realizes that Nell has never really gotten over Kyle's death.  She seems to be harboring a deeply rooted pain, a heavy weight of guilt and regret.  He knows he shouldn't get involved, but he can't help himself.  Trust doesn't come easily for either of them, and they both have demons.  Together, they learn the purpose of pain and the meaning of healing, and the importance of forgiveness.
Horndog Rating
The horndog rating by the Bad Girls team is on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the best.  Given a 'horndog' is a sexually desirous person, what better way to reflect our rating than with a sexy set of lips.   All team reviews will include the overall average rating, and individual ratings.
So lets see what the average Bad Girls rating was for Falling into You...
Bad Girl Reviews
~Mia Rose~
This was a really emotional read for me for a number of reasons.  Falling into You is full of so many different emotions, to name but a few - pain, grief, devastation, guilt, love and a small amount of hope.  I loved the relationship between Nell and Kyle, I loved reading about young love that develops from two childhood best friends.  They really were sweet together. I loved the little note Kyle wrote for her when he was trying to tell her he loved her.  It made my heart squeeze, it was so lovely.  It also made what was to come, so much harder to deal with.
I actually cried, and couldn't stop crying, it got to the point where i had to put it down for a while.  Jasinda's descriptive writing of the pain and anguish Nell was feeling after she lost Kyle just made it feel so real for me.
"It wasn't a tear.  I wouldn't cry.  Couldn't.  To let it go would be to open my soul. It would never stop.  I would break.... just shatter.  The liquid on my cheek was blood, surging out from my ripped and tattered heart".  Nell Hawthorne
We meet Colton for the first time at the funeral, he's Kyle's older brother and the black sheep of the family. As much as I loved sweet Kyle, bad boys are more my thing, and I adored and loved Colton to bits and even though he's turned his life around, and is really a sweetheart, there's still a touch of bad there.  His pain touched me as much as Nell's did.  He has his own dark secrets and can relate to what Nell is feeling and he is determined to help her grieve and to be there to guide her through it.
"We understand each other, Nelly.  We both have scars and regrets and anger.  We can do this together."  Colton Calloway
I really loved the incorporation of music into the book as well, and using music as a sort of therapy.  But as much as I loved this book, it's not without it's faults.
Firstly, I found it strange that Nell and Colton had only ever met twice before Kyle's funeral.  Considering Nell and Kyle had been inseparable since the day they were born and they were next door neighbours all of their lives.  The next thing that confused me was, when Nell and Colton met again in New York, after 2 years, Colton wasn't even surprised to see Nell standing there watching him busk.  They just acted as if no time had past, as if it hadn't been 2 years since they last saw each other.  I also felt it ended suddenly, and think an epilogue or a second book is needed.
I'm am giving this a rating of 7 out of 10 horndogs - An enjoyable, emotional read, but I still think there are a lot of issues that have been left not dealt with!
~~~~~
~Kimberlyn Kandie~
Let me just say from the start, get your tissues ready because you will need them!!  This book is a dark steaming love story about Nell and Colton, that does not start out the conventional way.  Nell's first love was Kyle who is Colton's little brother.  Kyle and Nell were best friends before they were old enough to walk and when they are 16, they each realize it is much more than friendship and turns into love.  I enjoy how their first love story is told with them experiencing all the firsts together as a couple, from their first kiss to losing their virginity with each other and how nervous they were.  Kyle's protectiveness over Nell is enduring and compassionate.  Jasinda has you falling in love with Kyle from head to toe.  The one tragic accident changes it all for Nell and Kyle.  Nell's world turns upside down in a matter of minutes.  It's amazing how life can change in a matter of seconds, from being so happy one minute to your world crashing around you the next.  I know everyone can connect with that one way or another.

Jasinda sends you on a wild roller coaster ride of emotions from being really really mad to sobbing uncontrollable when Kyle died.  Then, she gives us Colton who is so caring and compassionate to Nell during the funeral service and days after Kyle's death but they part ways. Jump ahead two years, when they run into each other in New York.

The second half of this book is where we see into Colton's dark past and how he has struggled with dyslexia all his life, to making a good life for himself with his own car restoration business and song writing.  Nell's life changes dramatically since she blames herself for Kyle's death.  These two have so much bad going on that coming together helps them both heal in the way they need.  They need each other in order to survive the grief of Kyle and their own unexpected grief as well.  I give this book an 8 out of 10 on our horndog scale.

The one thing i did not understand is why Kyle did not talk about Colton to Nell since they shared everything.  I really can see room for a second book dealing more with Colton and his past.  I felt jipped not getting more of his story.  I would definitely recommend this story.

Jasinda Wilder... Hats off to you for such a dramatic, emotional story.
~~~~~
~Kimmy Sparkles~
I give 'Falling into You' 8 out of 10 horndogs!  Jasinda is an amazing writer and does a fantastic job at bringing these characters to life.  Although the young love is not something I'm very keen on reading, I did enjoy that first love feel to the story.  You could feel the chemistry that Nell and Kyle had together.  Just as you are getting wrapped up in Nell and Kyle's relationship, tragedy strikes.
The story made you feel the loss and the pain from the grief.  After this point, Nell changes into a totally different person, where once she was naive and innocent, she becomes something darker.  Throughout this point in the story it's hard for me to connect with her character and understand why she has doubt and continued guilt.  It is a realization that we all deal with grief in our own different way.  Then Colton comes into the picture and he is Kyle's older brother.  I find it hard to believe that Nell knows so little about him!  Also, Nell and Colton come from respectable, upper class families, I find it hard to believe that their parents would just let their kids go off to a big city such as New York alone.  But I guess, if they didn't, there would be no story!
Colton and Nell had chemistry, HOT chemistry.  Instead of feeling grief, you were rooting for Colton and wanting Nell so badly to get over her issues with Kyle's death.  Oh.. I can't forget to tell you how much the sex rocked between Colton and Nell.  The ending wrapped it up and left it feeling complete, but if Jasinda wants to add to their story she could.
Overall, a well written, tragically sad story that takes you on a journey of finding new love along the way.
As the grandma and former teacher in this group of wonderful women, I loved this book and would recommend it to my friends.  I not only liked the plot and loved the characters, I enjoyed the structure of the writing.  The plot is two part, one of young love and the goal by youth to be good and do things right.  The character of Kyle is a hero in every way; smart, good looking, athletic and all the characteristics you would connect to a hero.  The story starts with Nell's point of view as she tells the story of falling in love with Kyle.  And you fall in love with Kyle as she tells their story.
The second part of the book deals with redemption and recovery for Nell and Colton.  The recovery is a journey that the reader will share with the characters.  Recovery is a strong theme in this book and takes a different path for each character.  The author touches on many struggles that people have, drugs, poverty, parent child relationships, alcohol and tragic loss of a family member.  I connected the tragic loss section of the book with newspaper headlines we read daily.  The second part of the book is also a very different love story between Nell and Colton.
On my second read of this book, I wished the author had chosen one or two recovery issues rather than so many.  Many people make a life journey with many problems but as a reader, I'd rather focus on one or two.  There was so much internal conflict with the characters.  One of the issues is a learning disability and I would have liked to read more about dealing with that in positive ways.  At the end of the book the characters were healing but it was not a happily ever after ending.  There is room for the characters to grow yet and characters i would like to see with a happily ever after ending.  I give this book 8 out of 10 horndogs, a very good book with room for book two.
Well, let me start by saying Jasinda Wilder knocked me off my tuskis (aka ass!), yes she did. I am not a crier, I don't cry...well that is what I thought, and then I became a professional snot slinger!  I love when i find a book that challenges me and all readers to step out of our box of our own understanding and show us something, something that scares you, haunts you, lets you fall in love, breaks your heart, but ultimately puts you back together.  Maybe not the way you were when you started reading the book, but just maybe a little bit better.
Well Ms Wilder, for me, that is what you did.  I fell in love with Nell and years from now, Nell and Colton's journey will not have faded.  I guarantee i will remember every emotion you ripped out of me, because trust me, i didn't give it willingly!  My favorite part, surprisingly, wasn't all the hot steamy scenes (however, high five it Jasinda, that my dear was HOT!!) it was the topics she hit in this story. The raw and truthful way she addressed it, the balls this woman had to tell this story alone has made me a loyal follower.
"Feel.  Grieve.  Let yourself feel the anger at the fact that he was taken from you.  Feel the loss of him.  Feel the sadness and the missing him.  Don't block it out, don't cut so it stops, don't drink yourself numb.  Just sit and let it all rip you apart.  And then get up and keep breathing.  One breath at a time.  One day at a time.  Wake up, and be shredded.  Cry for a while.  Then stop crying and go about your day.  You're not okay but you're alive, and you will be okay, someday."
"You make it sound easy.."
"Fuck no, it's not easy.  It's the hardest thing ever.  But it's the only way.  What you're doing is gonna kill you."
 Not only has Ms Wilder given me Colton to add to my "stable" of men, she has also given me a story I will surely pass on to some of the young girls i come into contact with, a good book that will become a souvenir for the heart.  Thank You Ms Wilder.
I give Falling into You 7 out of 10 horndogs.  Oh... and Colton was HOT... in all of his perfectly messy ways!!
Wow.  We knew based on the synopsis that this story would be deep, but we had no idea the depths at which we were about to dive.  Falling into you was one of those books you just can't put down.  Often times it was hard to read though as we experienced the emotional grief and devastation.  We fall in love for the first time right along with Nell and Kyle and then we experienced Nell's soul crushing loss of her first love right along with her.  There is grief and pain and healing in the most unexpected way.
First let us start off by saying that this book grabbed us from the very beginning.  Stories of first love have to be told in such a way to not seem juvenile.  Jasinda's beautiful style of writing captivated us and honestly made us fall in love right along with them.  We felt their firsts.  We loved right along with them.  And then, we lost right along with Nell.  We felt her grief and her pain.  So much that we had the ugly cry face on and everything.  There's something to be said for that. Not many books make me sob.  This one did.  The way Jasinda evokes true emotion is a true gift.
An unexpected delight was Colton.  We can NOT get enough of Colton.  Many kudo's given to Jasinda for taking such a controversial topic as a widowed girlfriend dating dead boyfriend's brother and making it just WORK.  Not only did it work but Colton just swooped in and made everything okay.  Like a dark angel, the calm in the storm.  And DAMN that man is sexy.  We want more!
Which brings us to our only complaint....  we wanted MORE!  We can't wait to see what Jasinda Wilder has up her sleeve.  And please, oh please... let it be more Colton!
We give Falling into You 9 out of 10 horndogs!
Well having my review towards the end of this post means that i am able to not rehash the things the girls have already talked about, but let me say that i agree with it all.  Falling Into You was an emotional read, that  had me sobbing (lets be honest, the tears and the snot were flowing!)  Nell and Kyle's story was perfect, best friends who were able to share their young love experiences together.  Their story made you think back to your first love, first time and wish that yours had been as perfect as theirs.  But alas - mine certainly wouldn't make a good book!  As we know, tragedy struck in the worst possible way for Nell and Kyle, when Kyle died in a horrible accident.  The emotion that Jasinda wrote those scenes with was brilliant, Nell's reactions were so believable, my heart was breaking for both of them.  I felt like a bystander - by Nell's side the whole time! The days after the accident resonated with me and my own grief experiences, it was almost like reliving them... they had that feel of being so real and honest.  Props to you Jasinda for being able to fill the pages with pure emotion.
Then we meet Colton! Oh Colton....  He was just what Nell needed to survive those first few days, but of course we know they part ways.  And we fast forward two years, to when they meet again in New York.  Nell and Colton's relationship is not without its struggles and Jasinda was very respectful in capturing the dynamics of their relationship; the perceived forbidden nature of it, their grief, their individual journey's to get where there were, and the barriers to their HEA.
The character development was good, Jasinda gave us a great insight into what makes Colton, Colton and how Nell's loss has eaten away at the person she once was.  Jasinda covers highly confronting subjects while relaying Nell and Colton's story, from self harming behaviours, guilt, grief and loss, learning difficulties, gangs, crime, murder and the list goes on and on...  With all of these elements, this story was definitely a page turner!
I did love this story, it broke my heart over and over again, and then it filled it with a sense of hope, not perfect fairytale ending, but one of hope and realism, and just saying Colton was so flawed he was PERFECT! I give Falling into You 8 out of 10 horndogs.
That said, there were some elements of the story that left me wondering... How could Nell and Colton have not known each other, Nell and Kyle were inseparable, surely Colton was the envious older brother; i felt Nell's sense of feelings towards Colton in the days after Kyle's death were a little unrealistic, but you know what, if she didn't have them, we wouldn't have a story!  I loved the build of Nell and Colton's relationship and the support and healing that Colton offered Nell, but i struggled with some of the scenes with the really sensitive subject matter, seeming superficial.
I also have huge void... I need to know what happened for Nell in the two years between the funeral and New York.  I struggled to connect with Nell in New York because i didn't get a sense of her survival, or basic existence, and i truly believe her parents would have tried so hard to help her through her grief.  The gaps in this time period were a challenge for me, and probably my biggest frustration.
Overall, i believe this was an amazing story, but one that had so many elements, i left thinking it was TOO MUCH... too much to fit into a book this size, the story was that good that a much longer book would still have kept you engaged, and allowed for more in depth consideration of the issues.... and shit.. really, who did Nell and Colton piss off in their previous lives, because they definitely faced some tough times in their young lives!
Here's to Nell and Colton finding their Happily Ever Afters, and some time drama free!
